We gathered at group on Monday morning, I had a new butterfly book and a new material about life cycles I had purchased over the weekend that brought so much excitement! Also next to me was a brown paper bag. The children listened carefully as I read our new book and introduced the new work. Then came the exciting part, What was in the bag?!……………..I slowly lifted a small cup out of the bag revealing our very own CATERPILLARS!!!!
The children sat with excitement as they watched our new visitors climb around. Many great questions were asked like, what do they eat? why do they look so small? Do they sleep? As the week as gone on many of those questions have been answered! The children have enjoyed watching them sleep, eat and shed their skin when they were getting too big, and they have gotten BIG! There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the new work on the science shelf as well.
So far our friends have not transformed into their Pupa or Chrysalis, I can’t wait to see the excitement when they do!
