In the Words of the Children

During the Season of Advent we will be pondering the great Mystery of the Incarnation in the Atrium. Here are a few thoughts from the children to help us in our own wonder over this great gift…

Recalling the Prophecy of the Light: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a Great Light.” (Isaiah 9:1)
– “God was coming into the world to be the light.” (5 year old)

Reflecting on the Prophecy of the Names: “They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:5b)
– “At Mass Jesus is a hero.” (3 year old)
– “In Reconciliation he is a hero because he saves us from our sins.” (6 year old, responding to 3 year old)
– “He’s the Hero because he made heaven to save us.” (1st grader)
– “He’s the Counselor because he shows us how to get to heaven.” (1st grader)

Pondering the Prophecy of the Shoot of Jesse: “But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, A spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be the fear of the LORD.” (Isaiah 11:1-3a)
– “Maybe on the Stump of Jesse that shoot was the Vine.” (1st grader)
– “The Stump is Jesus’ death and the shoot is His resurrection.” (3rd grader)
