Stone Soup

The children are always very excited about our Stone Soup Celebration!

Before Thanksgiving, we read the book Stone Soup by Marcia Brown. The story is about hungry, ill received soldiers traveling home who teach a community about generosity and collaboration.

The children make their own stone soup to enjoy together.  Students clean, peel and chop the veggies and pour those and all of the other ingredients into the pot.

Students also make corn bread muffins. Children have a good time grinding the corn. They take turns measuring, sifting and mixing all of the ingredients together to form the batter. They stir and pour the batter and patiently wait while the muffins bake!

Lastly, the children help arrange flowers, place tablecloths, and prepare the tables.

Children learn what it means to work together while discussing thankfulness and generosity.  They are so proud of the food they prepare!  Our Stone Soup Celebration is a highlight of the year.
